And when is given good news, (to) one of them, of what he sets up for the Most Gracious (as) a likeness, becomes his face dark and he (is) filled with grief.
View 78 More Translations ↓For [thus it is:] if any of them is given the glad tiding of [the birth of] what he so readily attributes to the Most Gracious, his face darkens, and he is filled with suppressed anger
And when any of them is given the good tidings of that he has likened to the All-merciful, his face is darkened, and he chokes inwardly
When news is brought to one of them of (the birth of) what he sets up as a likeness to (Allah) Most Gracious, his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief
وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ مَثَلࣰا ظَلَّ وَجۡهُهُۥ مُسۡوَدࣰّا وَهُوَ كَظِیمٌ ١٧
wa-idhā bushira aḥaduhum bimā ḍaraba lilrraḥmāni mathalan ẓalla wajhuhu mus'waddan wahuwa kaẓīmu
